Talent is critical in today highly competitive cruise industry.
The Maritime Holdings Group created the following seminars:
- Making the transition from Crew member to Supervisor
- Train-the- Trainer for the cruise industry
to assist cruise lines in developing the talent of their shipboard and shore side personnel.
These seminars are in fact tools to empower employees; they have been created by senior hospitality executives and effectively tested in many years of managing cruise ships to meet the cruise industry hospitality needs.
The methodology of the Maritime Holdings Group corporate seminars is based on training techniques inducing participants’ involvement through role playing, individual and group exercises taken from real shipboard situations.
The seminars can either be held onboard or shore side according to your specific requirements.

Making the Transition from Crew Member to Supervisor
To fill supervisory and management positions cruise lines can either select internal candidates or external hires, as both types of candidates offer different benefits for the organization.
Normally internal candidates are better choices as they are accustomed to the company culture, and they have developed positive networks both with ship board life as well as shore side management.
Additionally internal candidates are well motivated by the company recognition and cruise lines do not have to guess about the quality of their past professional experience.
Several examples show that unless the transition to a supervisory or management position is carefully planned and managed, the internal candidates may fail to meet the expectations of their new position for a number of reasons.
Lack of managerial skills and subsequent difficulty to establish a different relation with their previous peers is one of the most common for candidates promoted internally in the same department (i.e. a Cabin Steward promoted to Assistant Housekeeper).
The “Making the transition from Crew member to Supervisor” seminar is specifically designed by cruise professionals to effectively manage the smooth transition from crew member to a supervisory position.
The seminar can be either conducted onboard a cruise ship or in a shore side facility, for additional information please contact:
